Manual Lymphatic Drainage

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a hands-on technique used to manually move lymphatic fluid from one area of the body through the lymph collectors to the lymph-nodes. This allows the body to naturally absorb the swelling/ bruising and heal faster. Often creating better results post surgery.

Why it Can Help

When there is any trauma, the body's natural response is to protect and heal the affected area by sending as much fluid to that area as possible. Unlike injuries such as a twisted ankle, the fluid during an operation can get caught because the lymphatic collector lines have been cut. Our bodies are amazing and have back up options for this situation. MLD can move the fluid from the affected area to a healthy tissue--allowing it to be reabsorbed in the body as it was intended. This reduces the pressure against the nerves, which helps reduce the pain, and can also help reduce recovery time. Another benefit is that it picks up the blood caught in the area, thus reducing the time it takes for bruising to heal.
